VHS to DVD

The invention of the VHS videotape system took the world by storm in the late 1970s. Within 20 years, nearly every household in the world owned these VHS systems. By using VHS camcorders, average people could make videotapes of their wedding, graduation, anniversary or birth of their children. However, VHS video did not make advancements like digital technology and consumers moved to high-quality digital systems.

VHS video systems are now obsolete, and many people are using video conversions to transfer their old tapes using VHS to DVD conversion.

Advantages of Transferring VHS to DVD

DVD has a higher resolution versus low-resolution analog video. By using video conversions to DVD, the signal always remains in the digital format without degrading the signal each time it is played back or viewed like a VHS tape.

It is not necessary to rewind a DVD because unlike VHS tapes, no tape heads are used. A digital laser quickly reads the DVD disc. DVD digital video uses menus and individual chapters similar to a book. Simply locate the chapter on the disc and view it immediately. A DVD can include music, photos, and custom graphics to enhance video playback.

A DVD is very small in size compared to a VHS tape. The DVD can be stored in durable plastic cases or sleeves for long-term storage. No outdated device or machine is needed to playback the DVD. Any standard DVD player can be used for playback.

A DVD is durable and meant to be used for constant playback. Every VHS tape will degrade over time and can be damaged by the VHS machine during playback. VHS tapes are prone to tangling and breakage both inside and outside of a standard VHS player.

The digital video stored on DVD can be transferred and uploaded to a website, mobile phone, or popular digital media player. This portability is not possible with analogue VHS tapes.

VHS to DVD Transfer Process

During the VHS to DVD process, the analogue VHS tapes are transferred using a professional transcoding process. The transcoding equipment receives the VHS analogue signal and converts it into a digital format. After conversion, the digitised video is archived onto a storage drive. The digital video is then transferred to a DVD and can store up to 2 hours of digital video. The DVD can immediately be used for viewing, archiving, or for digital editing use.
