Super 8, 8mm & 16mm Film Transfer Pricing
Don’t settle for second best when it comes to transferring your precious films. Our ultimate frame-by-frame capture process utilises the latest technology to capture each individual frame of your film and deliver a truly breathtaking result. Your priceless films have never looked so good!
We offer film transfers in Standard Definition (SD), High Definition (HD) and 2K (our highest resolution), for 8mm, Super 8 and 16mm. Which resolution you choose should be made based on your budget, how important the video quality is and how the transfer footage will be viewed. For example, if you be viewing the footage on a laptop there will not be much difference between the resolutions – but if you will be viewing the footage on a large screen TV, HD will look superior and 2K will look the best. If money is no object, 2K plus the optional extra of Neat Video editing will give the absolute ultimate transfer quality.
Our prices for frame by frame file scanning and restoration are as follows:
Standard Definition (SD) frame-by-frame
59c per foot for silent films and 79c per foot for films with audio. This pricing includes film cleaning and repairs, editing of unusable footage, colour correction and output to DVD or a digital file such as .MP4, which we provide on a USB or SSD.
High Definition (HD) frame-by-frame
62c per foot for silent films and 82c for films with audio. This pricing includes film cleaning and repairs, editing of unusable footage, colour correction and output to Blu-Ray or a digital file such as .MP4, which we provide on a USB or SSD.
72c per foot for silent films and 92c per foot for films with audio. This pricing includes film cleaning and repairs, editing of unusable footage, colour correction and output to a digital file. 2K can only be transferred to a digital file such as .MP4, which we provide on a USB or SSD.
There is a minimum charge of $75 for film transfers, which includes the set up costs.
To reduce visual film grain (also known as ‘noise’) and improve the quality of your film transfer we recommend and use Neat Video, a powerful video editing plug-in that can reduce noise, and other imperfections, on your digitised file. You can use Neat Video yourself to edit your film after it has been transferred to a digital file, or for a small additional charge (25% of the transfer cost) we can apply it to your transfer and edit it for you. It is particularly effective on dark or underexposed film.
While many customers choose to transfer their film footage to a disc media or a digital file, we recommend the flexibility of a digital file, this way you can do your own copies and edit your own files. Sometimes customers would like their footage transferred into both a disc media AND a digital file. If you would like both formats, there is a 25% extra charge to provide both a DVD/Blu-Ray and a digital format.
If you would like your transfer digitised in two different file formats, (for example .avi and .mov), we can certainly do that. There is just a small 10% extra charge for two different file formats.
If you need more copies of the final discs, these are available at $5 each for DVD and Blu-Ray.
Files suitable for editing
With many user friendly video editing packages now available at all budget levels, custom editing your video footage is easier than ever. We can provide your unedited video footage as uncompressed .avi files (PC) or .mov files (Mac).
Please note, our Frame-by-Frame capture clocks the exact length of footage, so you only pay for the actual amount of footage we transfer.
