Screen Printed CDs & DVDs
Screen printing is the traditional method for disc surface printing and has been used to print on various substrates such as paper, glass, plastics, metal and fabrics for many years. Due to the simplicity of this process a wide variety of different inks and dyes are available, allowing for effects that aren’t possible with other printing methods. Screen printing is renowned for giving rich, vibrant colour results and is ideal for use with vector design and Pantone/PMS colours. If your artwork is made up of a bold or solid colour background with text, then screen printed discs may be the best option.
This format of printing does however have its limitations. If you require a higher resolution of print and your design contains images or small font, we recommend that you consider offset printing.
Screen printing solutions are available for designs from 1 to 6 colours, if you are unsure about the format of your artwork and feel that screen printing may be the best option for you, we are only too happy to advise.
Offset Printed CDs & DVDs
Offset disc printing is now the preferred technique by the majority of CD and DVD manufacturers, mainly because it is cost effective and achieves exceptional results. This method of printing uses the CMYK process (pixels) as opposed to vector (lines), giving your design quality close to that of a photograph.
Offset printing is of a much higher resolution than screen print, allowing your design to contain much more detailed images. In addition, discs printed in offset machinery do not have the indented ‘stacking ring’ that most screen printed discs have. This basically means that your artwork can fit from an outer disc diameter of 119mm to an inner diameter of 21mm, giving you 20mm of extra surface area to work with.
We highly recommend you choose the offset printing process if your artwork...
- is set up as CMYK
- contains fine detail
- uses a great deal of tonal ranges
- contains small fonts, graphics or images
